Berry Plastics Environmental Policy

Berry Plastics Tapes and Coatings is committed to protecting the environment and the health and safety of our employees, our customers, and the communities in which we operate. Meeting this obligation is a primary management objective and the individual and collective responsibility of all Berry Plastics employees worldwide. Below are just some of the activities from 2008 that Berry employed to help our environment.

Energy

An Energy reduction project conducted by our Franklin, KY facility reduced natural gas usage by 23,000 decatherms and electricity usage by over 7 MILLION kilowatt hours in 2008

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Accounting

In 2Q 2008, Berry Plastics joined the EPA Climate Leaders program to assist with our greenhouse gas accounting.

Sustainable Plastics

Redesign of existing materials - reducing weight, increase use of renewable, recyclable and biodegradable materials.

Post-consumer resin (PCR) and post-industrial resin use

Targeting processes that can sandwich" the post-consumer resin in the middle layer of a substrate. These include-thermoforming, blow-molding, and extrusion. Currently, Berry uses PCR in our can liners in our Flexible Films Division.

Secondary Packaging

Increasing recycled content and reducing packaging weight in materials that are used to transport products, including corrugated boxes, shrinkwrap, polyliners, and pallets.

Waste

Due to recent efforts by our Franklin, KY Green Team, we reduced landfill waste by reusing or recycling 936 tons of material in 2008.
